Births.
The total number of births registered during the year was 778,
but 64 of these did not belong to this district, while 16 births
properly belonging to this district occurred outside the district.
The nett number of births thus attributable to the district is 730,
giving a birth-rate of 16 6 per 1000. Adopting the population basis
suggested by the Begistrar-General for the calculation of the birth
rate, this comes to 16 9 per 1000. The birth-rate of England and
Wales is 17.8 per 1,000.
