One hundred and sixty new dual locker desks and 320 chairs
of a modern type were provided during the year.
4. MEDICAL INSPECTION.
(a) The children medically examined were those in the three
groups required by the Code of the Board of Education. These
included:—
(i) Entrants: i.e., those children admitted to school for
the first time since the last routine medical inspection.
(ii) Intermediates: i.e., those children who have attained
their 8th birthday since the last routine medical
inspection, or who will be 9 years of age during the
current year.
(iii) Leavers: i.e., those children who have attained their
12th birthday since the last routine medical inspection,
or who will be 13 years of age during the
current year.

There were medically inspected in the schools during the year 1931:—

In addition there were 111 other routine inspections in the
schools, making a total of 1,905.
Apart from these routine inspections, 2,708 children were
specially inspected at the Health Centre, and 8,069 re-inspected.
The total number of routine and non-routine medical inspections
during the year amounted to 4,613.
The number of children examined at the routine inspection
in the schools shows an increase of 14 over the figure for the
previous year. In the same way, the number of special inspections
and re-inspections at the Health Centre is 772 more than
during the year 1930.
(6) The Board's Schedule of Medical Inspection has been
adhered to in every respect.
(c) Medical inspection causes a certain amount of disturbance,
especially in the older type of schools. In 9 departments
the inspection is carried out in the Head Teachers' rooms. In
the older schools a classroom is utilised for this purpose. Owing
