The death-rate, calculated on the net estimate of the average population
of 157,656 is 9.2 per 1,000.
Inquests.—During the year, 67 inquests were held in the district, 39 on
Ilford residents, and 28 on non-residents.

Death-Rates from Tuberculosis and Cancer, 1939. The following Table shows the death-rates for 1939 for Ilford, compared with the provisional death-rates for England and Wales for the same period, per 1,000 population ; the figures having been supplied by the Registrar-General:—

5. Public Assistance Relief.—The total amount expended in Ilford
during the year was £27,827 4s. 3d. The average weekly number of cases in
receipt of relief was 1,203 including dependants.
The number of admissions to Oldchurch Hospital from Ilford during the
year was 917, made up as follows :—

Children 110
In addition there were 305 admissions of patients from Ilford to other
County Institutions, owing to no accommodation being available at Oldchurch
Hospital ; their allocation was as follows :—
