INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The number of infants dying within the first year of
their life was 122, the total number born being 1,538. The
infantile mortality or rate of death per 1,000 births was
therefore 79. This figure, while slightly in excess of last
year's figure, 62, is not unsatisfactory.
On the previous page is seen an analysis of the causes
of death in infants during the first year of life. As compared
with the previous year there was over double the number of
deaths from prematurity, and most of these occurred within
one week of birth.
The following table shows the infantile mortality in each ward of the district:—
Ward. | No. of Births. | Infantile Mortality per 1,000 Births. |
---|---|---|
Cranbrook | 113 | 35 |
Park | 209 | 95 |
Seven Kings | 208 | 67 |
North Hainault | 100 | *240 |
South Hainault | 246 | 65 |
Clementswood | 273 | 55 |
Loxford | 389 | 74 |
Ilford | 1,538 | 122 |
*Deducting from the North Hainault Ward the
deaths of infants occurring in the Village Homes, Barkingside,
there is left an infantile mortality rate of 120 per 1,000
births for that ward.
NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
During 1915, 585 cases were notified as compared with
643 in 1913 and 607 in 1914. Of these, 4 cases occurred in

Girls Village Homes, Barkingside.
