the Roman Catholics; 19 were according to the rights of
the Nonconformists; 142 were at the SuperintendentRegistrar's
Office.
In London the Marriages during the year numbered
41,223 and the persons married 82,446, equal to an annual
rate of 18.5 per 1,000 of the population.
In England and Wales the Marriage-rate in 1897 was
16.0 per 1,000, being the highest rate in any year since
1876 and 0.9 per 1,000 above the mean rate in the ten
years 1887-96.
