With regard to Nos. 43, 44, 45 and 46, Pereira Buildings, the defendant was fined
25 shillings and costs in each case for contravening section 48 of the Public Health
(Lond ) Act, 1891. The tenements were allowed to be occupied as dwellings without
the certificate of the Vestry that they had a proper and sufficient water supply.
HOUSES CLOSED.
The following list comprises the houses which were closed as unfit for habitation
consequent upon the service of sanitary notices:—
Ware Street, Nos. 1 to 20.
Goldsmith's Bow, Nos. 1a and 1 to 12.
Wilson Street, No. 59.
Bufus Street, Nos. 6 and 7.
Kingsland Road, No. 43.
Sun Street, Nos. 19 and 21.
Coronet Street, No. 32.
City Road, No. 134.
The houses in Ware Street, twenty in number, which were let in tenements, and
in a very dilapidated and insanitary condition, were closed in order to allow of
effectual measures being taken to render them habitable. They were dealt with
under the supervision of the Chief Sanitary Inspector, and extensive works were
executed to put them in a sanitary condition. The thirteen houses in Goldsmith's
Row were so insanitary, being practically worn out, that it was necessary for them
to be demolished.
The conditions under which the inmates of No. 32, Coronet Street, which was
let in tenements, existed were most insanitary ; the premises were closed by order of a
magistrate, with the consent of the owner, upon a complaint by Inspector Quelch.
The premises No. 134, City Road, were used as a club. It was impossible to
satisfactorily deal with the grossly insanitary conditions found exisiting there while
they were in occupation, and they were closed following on a notice served by
Inspector Lear.

inspectors in a dangerous state and requiring to be dealt with, was given to the
London County Council concerning 39 premises, viz.:—
