22 samples of the undermentioned were submitted for bacteriologieal
examination in connection with investigations associated
with infectious diseases and reported food upsets:—
Blanc Mange Orange Juice
Cabbage Pork Sausage Meat in Pastry
Coffee Cream Potato
Gravy Shepherds Pie
Icing Sugar Synthetic Cream
Jam Unicream
Mincemeat (Cooked) Water
Milk Powder (Dried)
Nineteen of these were satisfactory and three unsatisfactory.
UNSOUND FOOD.
One thousand four hundred and fourteen Food Condemnation
Certificates were issued during the year, affecting in quantity 15
tons. 4 cwts.. 1 qtr., 11 lbs. of varied articles of food, which was returned
through the Trade, utilised for manufacturing purposes or
animal food, or where this was impracticable, destroyed.

The corresponding figures for the year 1952 were 1.687 certificates and 30 tons. 17 cwts. 1 qtr., 24 lbs. of foodstuffs.
