BIRTHS
The number of live births registered during the year was
592 which gives a crude birth rate of 11.7 per 1,000 of population
and a corrected birth rate of 11.5 The rate for 1954 was
1103. There were 13 still-births giving a still birth rate of
21.9 per 1,000 births In 1954 the still-birth rate was 17.4.
DEATHS
The number of deaths credited to Wood Green after the necessary
adjustments had been made for inward and outward transfers
was 519 giving a crude death rate of 10.3 per 1,000 of population
and a corrected death rate of 9.5. The total number of deaths for
the previous year was 533, when the death rate was 10.43, Of the
total of 519 deaths no fewer than 316 occurred at ages over 65
and 109 deaths occurred at ages over 80 and 13 at ages over 90.
INQUESTS
Twenty inquests were held following the deaths of Wood Green
residents during 1955. A further 131 post-mortem examinations
were carried out without an inquest 47 of these in the Prince of
Wales Hospital which by arrangement with the Wood Green Borough
Council, provides mortuary services
MATERNAL MORTALITY
No deaths occurred during the year as a result of childbirth,
compared with none during the previous year.
INFANT MORTALITY
There were 14 deaths of infants under one year of age, giving
an infant mortality rate of 23.6 per 1,000 live births This compares
with a total of 15 deaths and an infant mortality rate of
26.6 in 1954.
