APPENDIX 1.
HEALTH EDUCATION
The programme of health education set out in detail in the
Report for 1952 was again carried out during 1953. It is now
obvious that health education must play an important part in any
health programme. The cost of health education when compared
with other health services is negligible. Although the results cannot
readily be assessed, they are undoubtedly many and lasting.
I have been particularly pleased at the warm manner in which
I have been received by local organisations, when asked to give a
health talk or to show a film. This is particularly encouraging, and
shows that there is a demand for knowledge by the community.
I will continue my efforts in this direction, and sincerely hope that
I will have the very great privilege of extending them.
I would also take this opportunity of expressing my most sincere
thanks to the editors of our local papers for their unfailing cooperation
and courtesy. Not once has space been refused, even
when this was extremely valuable. The help afforded by the press
has been truly magnificent, and has allowed the message of health
to find its way into many homes which could not otherwise have
been reached.
