The term "Infantile Mortality" is a proportional figure indicating
the number of deaths of Infants during their first year of life,
compared with a thousand births occurring during the same period.
Our number this year is 47 and this, when contrasted with 79,
which is the average figure in the 105 large Towns (of which we are
one) shows that we are a favoured community. Infantile Mortality
is considered to be a sensitive index of the general state of Health
of any locality.
