DEATHS.
There were 363 deaths registered within the district during
the year, and there were 173 residents who died outside the district,
making a total of 536, from which must be deducted 27 deaths of
non-residents.
The correct number is therefore 509, which is equal to an
annual rate of 9.73 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with
12.4, the death rate for England and Wales for the same period.

There were 56 deaths of children under one year, which corresponds
to a rate of 48.11 for every 1,000 births, against 51 deaths,
or a rate of 68 last year.
The rate for the whole of England and Wales was 80 (80 also
being the figure in smaller towns, i.e., with census population of
20,000 to 50,000).
The deaths of children under five years was 76, which corresponds
to a rate of 1.45 per 1,000 of the general population, against
67, or a rate of 1.13 per 1,000 in 1919.
