During the period of the war a considerable number of munition factories were established in
and around Willesden.
These factories employed large numbers of workpeople, both male and female, who immigrated
into the District from all parts of the country. Although the manufacturing of munitions of war has
ceased, many of the ex-munition workers are employed in connection with Metal and Wood working
industries recently established in Willesden.
Vital Statistics.—The population of Willesden estimated at Midsummer, 1919, was 170,625.
