APPENDIX G.
Municipal Offices,
Dyne Road, Kilburn, N.W.,
16th November, 1914.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Children's Care Committee.
Re Dust Allaying Materials.
I beg to report on the above matter, in accordance with
the instructions of the Education Committee given at their
meeting of July 1st, 1914.
In connection with the above instructions I addressed
the following letter to Head Teachers on the 3rd September
last:—
"Dust Allaying Materials.—The Education Committee
has issued from time to time the following instructions
regarding the above matter:—
"(1) That the slipperiness, dirtiness and dark appearance
of the floors, caused by dust allaying materials,
could be diminished if the amount and frequency
of the application were considered in connection
with the nature of the floor, i.e., boarded or
blocked, old or new.
"(2) That slipperiness could be further diminished by the
application of non-slip powder.
"(3) That the accumulation of greasy dirt on the floors
could be diminished by more frequent and vigorous
brushing.
"(4) That the floors should be washed at least three times
a year, namely, during the periods ending respectively
at the Easter, Midsummer and Christmas
holidays.
