Hospital Beds.
In respect of the number of hospital beds required, it
should be noted that the greatest prevalence of
Diarrhœa and Enteritis is during July, August and
September;
Measles during November, December and January, and
again in May and June;
Whooping Cough during March and April; and
Bronchitis and Pneumonia during October, November,
December, January, February and March.
From the above statement it will be observed that the
beds required for Diarrhœa and Enteritis in the summer
would be available for Measles, Bronchitis and Pneumonia in
the winter, and for Whooping Cough in the spring. The
beds, therefore, required for Measles and Whooping Cough
and some of those required for Bronchitis and Pneumonia
may be deducted, and the total number of beds which would
fall to be provided for in connection with maternity and child
welfare would be 71, or say, 72, to allow for administrative
convenience.
From the Report of the Local Government Board on Isolation Hospitals, the following information as to the price of beds is taken:—
