and I think he should be appointed at the same salary as
that suggested for the consultant in respect of Diseases of
Children, to cover all the Council's skin work.
Eye Diseases.—The Consulting Ophthalmic Surgeon,
recently appointed, is paid at the rate of one guinea per
hour. I think he should be appointed at the annual salary
proposed to be paid to other consultants, to include all the
Council's eye work.
Throat, Nose and Ear Diseases.—These also require
the services of a consultant, and I would suggest that he
be paid at the same rate as the other consultants referred
to above.
Diseases of Women.—A consultant would also be
required in respect of these conditions, but I would suggest
that until evidence accrues as to what extent he may be
called upon, that the Medical Officer of Health be authorised
to employ a consultant as and when necessary, and to report
on each occasion to the Committee. The cost per annum in
respect of additional staff, therefore, would be:—
£ £
Seven assistant Medical Officers at salaries of £400 by
£25 a year to £500 per annum 2800—3500
Existing three assistant Medical Officers to be put on
the same scale (increase) 300— 600

of £108 to £138 per annum 3024—3864
