Age and Sex Constitution of Population compared
with England and Wales.—The following Table, No. 8,
shows the ratio of the population of Willesden to that of
England and Wales at the various age and sex groupings.

The above Table, No. 8, shows that in Willesden there
is an excess of children under 10 years, then a deficiency
for two quinquennia in the case of females, and for three
in the case of males, and then an excess up to age 45 in
both sexes, followed by a deficiency in the remaining
groupings. This distribution of population is characteristic
of the suburbs around London, and the explanation probably
lies in the following. The population of Willesden is
composed in part of young married couples, who have
probably moved out of London as their families became
larger, possibly on account of cheaper houses, and possibly
