First Onset in Relation to School Children.—
Of these 24 children 11 had their first attack prior to
going to school. Of these 11 children one entered school at
the age of three years, one at the age of four years, six at
the age of fixe years, two at the age of six years, one at
the age of eight years, so that in only one of these cases
can it be said that epilepsy prevented the attendance of the
child at school prior to the age of six years.
The Severity and Frequency of Epileptic Seizures.
—The severity of the epileptic seizures in these cases varies
from the condition known as petit mal in some cases to
severe epileptic convulsions in others, lasting for five minutes,
followed by sleep and semi-consciousness of nine hours
duration. In those cases, however, in which the epileptic
seizures are severe the) are infrequent, occurring at interval;
usually of two, four, six, nine or twelve months duration,
while in some cases there has been only one attack at any
time.
Regularity of School Attendance.—The regularity
of school attendance in all these cases is good.
