struck some years ago by the frequency with which a history of recent
sore throat was elicited in houses where cases of Scarlet Fever were
notified as occurring.
During the years 1905, 1906 and 1907, note has been kept of all
cases where, in a house infected with Scarlet Fever, sore throat had
been complained of prior to or at the time of the occurrence of recognised
Scarlet Fever in the house. At the same time a control
observation was made in respect of houses not infected with Scarlet
Fever at which enquiry was made in connection with other diseases
not themselves associated with sore throat as a symptom of the disease.
The results of the observations are shown in the following table:—
