Arpley Road. The seven houses are registered for 80
lodgers. Frequent day and midnight inspections are
made. The keeper of two of these houses is very infirm,
and hardly capable of looking after the conduct of the
lodgers. Under the Public Health Acts Amendment
Act, the keepers in future will have to have deputy keepers
residing on the premises. This should be conducive of
better control of the premises.
There are 24 houses in Arpley Road registered as
Houses Let in Lodgings. Thesecontain 120 furnished rooms,
and have been measured as to their cubic capacity. This
information has been given to the various landlords, so
that there can be no excuse for overcrowding.
A great amount of time is taken up in visiting
these houses, for as soon as one nuisance is abated
another appears, due mainly to the habits of the
occupants who are continually changing, being often
only 2 or 3 days in the rooms.
The cleansing has been carried out in accordance
with the Bye-laws.
FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS.
There are 103 workshops and workplaces on the
register. Nineteen additional workshops were registered
during the year. Four hundred and one visits
have been made to these premises. Seventy-one notices
have been served, and, besides these, many verbal
notices were given to remedy some slight defects.
In the table relating to the work done under the
Factory and Workshop Act will be found particulars of
the various trades and of the nuisances abated.
