Anti.Diphtheritic Serum was supplied for the treatment
of seven cases.
Five specimens of sputum were also examined, two
being positive and three negative.
pulmonary tuberculosis and other
tubercular diseases.
The deaths from pulmonary tuberculosis at all ages
for the past year, 1909, are 25, equal to 9.05 per cent. of
the total number of deaths registered, as against 22 in
1908. The deaths from other tubercular diseases are
4 for 1909, equals 1.44 percent. of total deaths registered,
as against 13 for 1908. The total number of deaths from
these diseases in 1909 was 29, as against 35 in 1908,
which is equal to a rate of 10.5 per cent. of deaths registered,
as against 16.2 for 1908.
Voluntary notification of phthisis has been fairly
general in the district since the adoption of the principle
by the Council in June last, and is a step in the right
direction towards compulsory notification, without which
no really effective measures can be taken to deal with
this still far too devastating disease.
