SECTION E.
INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION
OF FOOD.
General.
The Food and Drugs Amendment Act, 1954, became law in
November of that year, but, with the exception of one section which
deals with the restriction of private slaughterhouses, will not come into
operation until a date to be appointed by the Minister.
The proposal that catering establishments should be registered
with local authorities was not ultimately included in the Act. and it
will be interesting to see to what extent the substitute will achieve the
desired effect of improving hygienic practices in these establishments.
The new clause gives the courts the power, after a caterer has been
convicted of an offence against the food hygiene regulations, to make
an order disqualifying him from carrying on his business for a period
not exceeding two years.

FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1938.

Food Sampling.

One hundred and ninety-three samples of food and drugs were taken for analysis, 13 of which were formal and 180 informal.
