DEATHS.
During the year there were 516 deaths registered and belonging
to the Urban District. Of this number 262 were males and 254
females.

Cancer of the Lung.
During the year there were 25 deaths from cancer of the lung.
Maternal Mortality.
There were no maternal deaths in the area during 1954.
Infantile Mortality.
Fifteen infants died during 1954 before reaching their first birthday,
giving an Infant Mortality Rate for the year of 14.3 per 1,000
live births.
Eleven died in the first four weeks of life, 9 of which were within
the first week.
The average rate for the past five years is 18.7.
