Salad Cream (Informal)Unfit for use. Oil had undergone oxidative rancidity. Adulterated.This was one bottle of a doubtful batch reported to the department by a Stores Manager. The remainder of the stock was destroyed.
Salad Mayonnaise (Informal)Inferior—the same but not such an advanced stage as the Salad Cream mentioned above.Ditto.
Table Jelly Crystals. (Informal)Deficiency in sugar content of 3%.Full investigation made through the Importers and Manufacturers. The Customs Department had made satisfactory trial tests and the unsatisfactory sample could not be explained Owing to comparatively slight deficiency a warning letter was sent.
Cream Ices. (Two Informal and One Formal)Not cream ices—contained not more than 0.3% butter fat.The wrappers and advertisement board described the commodities as " Cream " Ice. Representations were made to the Ministry of Food and it was hoped that a provision would be inserted in the new Ice Cream jStandards Order prohibiting the use of the description " Cream Ice" unless the products contained an appreciable amount of butter fat. Provision has not been made however and as the law stands to-day it is unlikely that legal action would succeed.
Beef Sausages (Formal)Adulterated. Deficiency of 16% in minimum amount of meat required.First offence. Strict warning given.
Pork Sausages (Formal)Adulterated. Deficiency of 12% in minimum amount of meat required.Ditto.
