where a doctor certifies that an expectant mother is suffering from toxaemia of pregnancy
and such assistance is medically necessary.
From the commencement of this scheme until June 1962 - the trial period - there
were seven beneficiaries and two further cases were assisted up to the end of 1962.
The amount of help received varies from full-time to two hours daily. The cases have
been referred by either Maternity Hospitals, General Practitioners, Midwives or Clinic
Doctors and in all cases Medical Certificates have been requested at 28 day intervals.
The domestic helps continued to give valuable assistance in cleaning up particularly
dirty cases and the cheerful manner in which they tackle these unpleasant tasks is an
inspiration to all.
Applicants for the posts of domestic helps were of a good standard generally
throughout the year. A number of domestic helps have now attended a course of in-service
training and such training has proved of great value and is much appreciated by helps
concerned. It is hoped during 1963 to extend these courses locally so that most of the
domestic helps employed will be able to undergo a short course of training.
