In the Leyton area there have been employed, during 1950,
the equivalent of 1.5/11ths dental officers for the inspection and
treatment of approximately 12,500 school children. These same
dental officers treated all patients referred by the Maternity and
Child Welfare Services. In addition, we have had the service of
a dental officer two sessions per week from 20th March for orthodontic
work, the total service available being less than one-third
of the authorised establishment.
Routine inspection was carried out in only four schools in the
area; but two schools, inspected in December, 1949, also received
treatment during the year under review, in addition to those
children in the schools inspected.
2,525 accident or toothache cases attended as casual cases
during the year and received treatment.
A summary of the treatment carried out will be found in Table IV on page 129.
