Most of the houses are in good condition and have been erected
since the War. It has been found necessary from time to time
to condemn some of the older cottages; in consequence there is
no slum area at all in the district. 1587 houses are owned by
the Council and are let at a low rental, preference being given in
the allocation of these houses to people who have lived in the
district for some years. There is a number of bungalows let to
old people without families at a rental of 5s. 0d. a week inclusive
of rates.
