Maternal deaths are investigated by the Medical Officer of
Health in collaboration with the medical practitioner and
midwife concerned.
A (3). Infantile Mortality.
25 infants died before reaching one year of age, giving an
infantile mortality of 35.4. The comparable figure for the
whole country is 49.
Analysis of the cause of death of this age group reveals
the following figures:—

Bronchitis and Pneumonia 4
Whooping Cough 1
Gastro Enteritis 2
Marasmus and General Debility 2
Other causes 8
T.B. Meningitis 1

A (4). Unemployment Figures and Comments.
With the courteous co-operation of the Manager of the
Erith Employment Exchange, it once again is possible to give
definite figures on the state of unemployment in the District,
as shown in the following table.
