Heart Disease and Rheumatism.
Table II shows that 16 cases of organic heart disease were
observed, whilst the number of cases of functional heart disease
was 193.
Tuberculosis.
The Kent County Council is responsible for the Tuberculosis
Scheme, and a Dispensary is maintained at 65 Bexley Road,
where the Tuberculosis Officer attends twice weekly. Sanatorium
treatment is also provided by that Council. It will
be seen by reference to Table III, Subsections 1 and 2 that 4
cases of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and 6 cases of Non-Pulmonary
Tuberculosis are included in the records for this district.
The closest co-operation is maintained between the Dispensary
Staff and the Staff of the School Medical Service and
as your School Medical Officer is a member of the Tuberculosis
Care Committee which is a voluntary committee organised by
the Kent Council for Social Service, the opportunities for mutual
help in this work are thereby extended.

Minor Ailments are treated at the school clinic, but in all
cases where practicable children suffering from defects, other
than Minor Ailments, are referred to general medical practitioners
or to Hospitals.
Apart from the use of the clinic as a treatment centre, it
performs the function of re-examining certain children who
were discovered at previous inspections to require observation;
also children are presented for examination on the advice of
teachers or parents.
It will be seen that the number of visits paid to the schools
has again increased this year.
Attendances at the Minor Ailments Clinic have increased
by 3,026, and the actual number of children who made use of
the clinic during the year has increased by 274.
