12 samples of milk were obtained and submitted to the
County Bacteriologist for Bacteriological Examination. In any
case where an adverse report is received, the Sanitary Inspector
visits and advises with a view to improving the method of
production and distribution by the Dealer concerned.
During the same period three samples of milk were submitted
for chemical analysis, and the results proved that all
three samples consisted of genuine milk of good quality.
F(4). Other Foods.
Routine sampling under the Food and Drugs Acts is undertaken
by the Kent County Council. The Inspector who takes
samples under these Acts is also Inspector of Weights and
Measures.
Samples of any suspected foods taken by the Sanitary
Inspector are submitted to the County Analyst for examination,
and during the year one sample of cheese was submitted by the
Sanitary Inspector to the County Laboratory, following a complaint
from a resident within the District that it was unsound.
Upon examination the sample proved to be not adulterated.
F(5). Offensive Trades.
In addition to the statutory Offensive Trades under the
Public Health Act of 1875, Fish Frying, Extracting and Melting
Fat and dealing in Rags and Bones were in 1912 declared by
Order to be Offensive Trades within the District, and Byelaws
have been made under this head.
The only Offensive Trade carried out in the District is Fish
Frying : there are 15 Fish Fryers carrying on business, and
visits are frequently paid in order to ensure that the standard
of cleanliness is maintained.
Within the area of the Council's Town Planning Scheme,
Offensive Trades may be carried on only in certain prescribed
zones, and subject to obtaining the consent of the Council.
