to lip read satisfactorily and to speak where the teaching of speech
was found to be necessary. The four children classified as Motor
Aphasia arc suffering from disease due to lack of development
of a certain part of the brain known as the Speech centre. These
children hear perfectly but are unable to speak until subject to
special training. The four children in question were all learning
to speak satisfactorily.
Dr. Forrester and 1 were very satisfied with the care and
attention that Enfield children were receiving at this school
and especially so with the admirable efforts made by the Head
Teacher, Miss Beckingsale, to find work for all the children as
they leave her school. I am given to understand that she succeeds
in placing practically every child that leaves the school. We feel
satisfied that the Education Committee is caring for the deaf and
dumb children of the district satisfactorily by placing them in
Philip Lane School.
