Arrangements for the treatment of ear, no.se and throat disorders amongst
school children arc made with the Prince of Wales's Hospital, Tottenham; ringworm
is treated at, and ultra-violet light treatment given in, the North
Middlesex County Hospital, Edmonton.
NURSING HOMES REGISTRATION
The one Maternity Homo and ono Nursing Homo wore discontinued during the
year, and there is now only ono Nursing Home registered by the Council. This
is kept under supervision by the Medical Officor of Health. No new applications
to bo placed on tho Register woro receivod during 1939.
SANITARY INSPECTION IN THE AREA
Fivo District Sanitary Inspectors are engaged in the sanitary supervision
of tho Borough, working under tho supervision of tho Senior Sanitary Inspector.
The Woman Sanitary Inspector looks after outworkers' premises, the sanitary
condition of f.- ctories where women are employed, tho investigation of notifiable
infectious diseases, including tuberculosis. She also assists in the supervision
of tho women's public conveniences. The Senior Sanitary Inspector
supervises the work of the Borough and is Inspector under tho Canal Boats Acts.
At tho outbreak of hostilities the Senior Sanitary Inspector was
appointod Controlling Officor for Emergency Petrol Supplies and also Authorised
Officer for Decontamination of Food. One Inspector was appointed Mortuary
Superintendent, another as Ambulance Officer and a third as Billeting Officer.
