SCHOOLS
The exclusion of children suffering from infectious diseases and their
contacts is dealt with in accordance with the Memorandum issued jointly by the
Ministry of Health and the Board of Education. No schools were closed during
the year on account of infectious diseases.
HOUSING - HOUSING ACT, 1936
OVERCROWDING
During the year certificates for permitted numbers were issued in respect of
322 dwellings.
CLEARANCE AREAS
A scheme was drawn up in respect of Bridport Road, but the Inquiry was not
held owing to the outbreak of war.
INDIVIDUAL UNFIT HOUSES
During the year Demolition Orders havo been made in respect of six houses, and
one being demolished. The Council re-housed the persons concerned.
1. INSPECTION OF DWELLING-HOUSES DURING TEE YEAR:-
(1) (a) Total number of dwelling-houses inspected for housing defects
(under Public Health or Housing Acts) 1117
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 5509
(2) (a) Number of dwelling-houses (including under sub-head (1) above)
which were inspected and recorded under the Housing
Consolidated Regulations, 1925 and 1932 31

(3) Number of dwelling-houses found to be in a state so dangerous
or injurious to health as to be unfit for human habitation 8
(4) Number of dwelling-houses (exclusive of those referred to above
under the preceding sub-head) found not to be in all
respects reasonably fit for human habitation 760
2. REMEDY OF DEFECTS DURING THE YEAR WITHOUT SERVICE OF FORMAL NOTICES:-
