DENTAL TREATMENT.
During the year 612 expectant mothers were seen for the first
time by the Dentists. The work carried out included fillings,
extractions and the fitting of dentures.
The number of fillings inserted totalled 451, a slightly smaller
number than in the preceding year.
The total number of extractions amounted to 2,178. This
figure is also smaller than in the preceding year. New dentures
were fitted for 155 mothers. This number is smaller than in the
preceding year when 178 were fitted.
Other operations carried out for patients included scalings,
gum treatment, dressings in cases of toothache and adjustments
made to dentures after being fitted. These operations required
1,249 attendances.
The work carried out for children was chiefly extractions as
these children are brought when toothache has occurred and only on
rare occasions can bad teeth in these children be saved. Altogether
500 temporary teeth were extracted, only 34 were saveable.
CHILD LIFE PROTECTION.
The work of supervision of foster mothers, carried out by the
Health Visitors who have all been appointed Child Protection
Visitors, is summarized in the following table :—
