Premises in which it is proposed to establish new homes are
visited as frequently as is necessary so that the appropriate
recommendations can be made to the Health Committee. The Chief
Officer of the Fire Brigade Department advises on essential fire
precautions and these usually entail building alterations.
Established nursing homes were visited by a Medical Officer
of the Department once every quarter and, except for some minor
matters, were all satisfactory.
No applications were received during the year. Three agencies
remained on the register at the end of the year.
NURSERIES AND CHILD-MINDERS REGULATION ACT, 1948
The necessary preliminary inspections and routine re-inspections
of Registered Minders and private Day Nurseries have been
carried out in accordance with the above Act.
There are no Day Nurseries which take children of all ages
for the whole day. There are 3 Nurseries which take 2½ to 5-yearolds
daily excepting Saturdays, the remainder being of the "part
time" class receiving toddlers for mornings only.
All child-minders are required before registration to show
by a satisfactory X-ray of the chest that they are free from
pulmonary tuberculosis. Annual re X-rays are also required.
