Cost of the School Health Service.
The gross cost of the medical, dental and nursing services
was £28,108. The rateable value of the Borough as at 1st April,
1946, was £2,515,408. The Government grant is 49.727 per cent,
of the expenditure, hence the actual cost to the rates was £14,131,
i.e., a rate of 1.45 pence.
Cost of Special Schools.
Schools maintained by the Council, £13,149, contributions to
schools under other authorities, £3,373; income from parents'
contributions and other receipts, £35, giving an actual cost of
£16,487, of which £8,289 was payable out of local rates, i.e., a
rate of .85 pence.
Cost of Milk and Meals.
Meals and milk cost £97,780, including wages, fuel,
printing, etc. On this expenditure the Government now make
a grant of 100 per cent. for expenditure on milk, and 74.15 per
cent. of the expenditure upon meals.
