however, attention is for the most part confined to those whose
dental condition causes discomfort or when treatment has been
specially rcommended by the Resident Medical Superintendent.
Dental treatment for tuberculosis patients differs from that
prescribed for ordinarv individuals in that as the former are
already definitely ill, any operations performed must be of short
duration, so as not to risk any aggravation of the underlying
condition. It is worthy of note that while, in cases where the
mouth is unusually neglected, the patient is often loath to have
anything done, the reaction once treatment is commenced is
usually good and little further trouble is experienced.
Those returning to their homes in Croydon before being
rendered dentally fit can, if desired, attend at Lodge Road Clinic
at a later date for the necessary work to be completed.
Treatment sessions devoted to this class of work were 33
against 34 in 1941. Treatment figures given below follow very
closely on those obtained during the previous year.
