Scarlet Fever,
The total number of Scarlot Fever cases admitted during the year
was 169, an increase of 22 on 1940. The type of disease admitted during
the year was of moderate severity. 4 cases sent in as Scarlet Fever
were not suffering from the disease.
The following complications and sequelae occurred amongst the true
Scarlet Fever cases:-

The average stay in hospital of serum cases was 34,8 days and of
non-serum cases 34.5 days.
One death oceurred amongst the Scarlet Fever cases, this was due
to r.cutc appendicitis with perforation having developed two days after
the patient's admission to hospital, and general peritonitis supervening
later.
The number of complications amongst the 109 non-sarum cases was 17,
whereas the complications amongst the serum cases was 13.
Prontosil album was again found useful in clearing up of persistent
otorrhoea in some cases, as was M.B.693.
