The type of Diphtheria cases admitted during tho first four months of
the year was severe and narked by texemia.
Most of the fatal cases wore admitted late, usually on the fourth day
or later of disease.
The number of admissions after September was again very small - only
16 casos for the period September to end of December 1940, these including cases
of positive swabs..
TYPHOID AND PARA TYPHOID FEVER.
During the year 18 cases of typhoid fever or para typhoid fever were
admitted and in all cases the diagnosis was confirmed. No deaths occurred
amongst the cases.
PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
During the year 6 cases of puerperal pyrexia were admitted. No cases
of puerperal fever were admitted.
ERYSIPELAS
There wore 17 cases of Erysipelas admitted, 2 more than in 1939.
Three deaths occurred amongst them, one being complicated by heart disease, the
others by senility'and general septicaemia.
WHOOPING COUGH.
There wore 4. cases of whooping cough, a fall of 25 cases on 1939.
No deaths occurred.
CEREBRO SPINAL MS MENINGITIS .
Sixty-three cases of this disease were admitted but in 21 cases the
diagnosis was not confirmed.
OPHTHALMIC NEONATORUM.
Three cases were admitted but they wore all cases of simple Ophthalmia.
INFANTILE PARALYSIS (POLIOMYELITIS) . There was only one case admitted.
DYSENTERY ,
Seven cases wore admitted of the Sonne type. One case of acute gastroenteritis
died.
PEMPHIGUS.
Two cases admitted as Pemphigus were really casos of septic dermatitis
and of icterus5 the latter case proved fatal.
