FOOD CONTROL - ENFORCEMENT.
The Ministry of Food contribute the sura of £600 per annum for work
carried out by the Sanitary-Inspec tors on their behalf, the Chief
Sanitary Inspector being the.Chief Food Control Enforcement Officer.

During the year the Sanitary Inspectors have carried out the undermentioned visits:-

Visits regarding the exhibition of price lists and to advise re Price Control Orders4430
Visits regarding complaints of shortages271
Visits regarding complaints of overcharges etc.,156
Miscellaneous Visits including visits regarding applications for Retail Licences2046

A number of prosecutions were instituted by the Food Enforcement
Sub-Committee.
PUBLIC SLAUGHTERHOUSES, PITLAKE, AND MEAT
INSPECTION.
These slaughterhouses, although the buildings were not originally
intended for such,comprise twelve slaughterhouses with lairage attached.
In addition,a gut cleaning finn utilises one building on the premises.
Of the twelve slaughterhouses, nine with lairage attached were let on
agreement to tenant butchers and the remainder were used for public
slaughtering,for which head rate tolls are charged.
The above slaughterhouses were taken over by the Ministry of Food
early in 1940.

The following animals were slaughtered at the Public Slaughterhouses during 1940:-

The whole of the meat and offal is examined before it leaves the
premises.
