DISINFESTATION.
In addition to the above services disinfection has been carried out
for various services such as report centres,casualty services,engineers'
centres,fire services etc., as follows:-

Disinfestation of furniture etc.,by Hydrogen Cyanide is carried out
in certain cases before tenants occupy Corporation houses.
Bedding is treated by steam disinfection and delivered in a second
van to the house.
Forty-four cases were dealt with during the course of 1940 without
any ill effects to any person,either householder or operator.
A number of notifications we re received from contractors who have
been employed by private persons to carry out cyanide disinfestation of
houses. Villile the process was being carried out the premises were kept
under observation by the inspector. At the conclusion a certificate
was issued by the firm stating that the premises were free from cyanide
gas.
DISINFESTATION OF HOUSES (OTHER THAN OF CONTENTS)
FOR BED BUGS ETC.,
Houses are disinfected by means of sulphur and spraying with
various types of vermicides. Cyanide is not used in houses,but is used
for furnishings. The latter process is carried out in the special vans.

CLEANSING- OF VERMINOUS PERSONS ETC.,
During the year 19 adults and 132 children were cleansed for
verminous conditions and 97 adults and 201 children for scabies.
RATS AND MICE DESTRUCTION.
The rat-catcher is a permanent member of the staff,and no charge
is made for his services.
Rats are destroyed by the following methods: Dogs,poison baits,
traps and rat varnish smeared on cardboard.
Close co-operation is carried out between the rat-catcher and the
District Sanitary Inspectors.
