Sixteen Dairy premises are registered in the district and
17 persons are registered as Distributors of Milk.

The following are details of licences to deal in specially designated milks, issued by the Council, in respect of 1956:—

BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS.

Thirty-one samples of designated milk were taken with the following results:—

Number passing phosphatase test31
Number failing passing phosphatase test
Number passing methylene blue test28
Number giving unsatisfactory methylene blue result3

Thirty-two samples of milk were submitted for chemical
examination and all proved to be satisfactory.
ICE CREAM.
Ten samples were taken during the year. Eight were placed
in Grade I and 2 in Grade II.
PIGGERIES.
There are 17 piggeries of varying size in the district, one of
which has a normal complement of approximately 1,000 pigs.
Seventy visits of inspection were made and three defects found
were subsequently remedied.
