Some of the complaints were unjustified or arose from a
misunderstanding on the part of the purchasers.
In a number of instances it was possible to give advice to
the traders concerned, who readily agreed to take all the steps
suggested, in order to prevent similar occurrences. In 17 cases
warning letters were issued, either as a routine measure, or on the
explicit instructions of the Committee.
In two serious cases (a bandage in a loaf and pork sausages
sold in a mouldy condition) proceedings were instituted with
successful results. A third case concerning a dirty milk bottle
was pending at the end of the year.
