The Registrar General's estimate of the total population of the
Urban District, mid-year 1956, was 87,300, which is an increase
of 430 over the figure for the previous year. This figure gives a
density of 9.8 persons to the acre.
The natural increase of population, measured by excess of
births over deaths, in 569.
It is interesting to note that since 1947, the total increase in
population is 19,430.
