Slaughterhouses.
There were no applications received during the year for
licences to slaughter animals under the Slaughter of Animals Act,
1933. There are no slaughterhouses in the district.
Piggeries.
There are 30 piggeries in the district, to which 165 visits were
made. Twenty-seven defects were found and remedied.
Milk.
A total of 89 licences were granted under the Milk (Special
Designation Pasteurised and Sterilised Milk) Regulations, 1949,
and the (Milk (Special Designation) (Raw Milk) Regulations,
1949, as follow :—
Pasteurised Dealers' Licences 16
Pasteurised Supplementary Licences 12
Sterilised Dealers' Licences 22
Sterilised Supplementary Licences 12
Tuberculin Tested Dealers' Licences 16
Tuberculin Tested Supplementary Licences 11
Twenty-four samples of pasteurised milk were taken, all of
which were satisfactory.
There are 16 dairies in the district to which 23 visits were
made.
Ice Cream.
There are 145 premises registered for the storage and sale of
ice cream in the area. Seventeen samples were taken for
bacteriological examination. No pathogenic organisms were
found to be present.
The Methylene Blue tests resulted as follow, and continue
to show an improvement in the results for the previous year.
The method of sampling was varied and always carefully
carried out.
