The Council have now acquired 11¼ acres of land for the disposal
of house and other refuse at Whitehorse Hill, Chislehurst,
and this will be utilised for this purpose in April next.
This will abolish the present unsightly refuse heaps in the
District.
Petroleum (Traders). Nine persons were licensed during the
year for the storage of Petroleum in respect of amounts varying
from 50 to 500 gallons.
Petroleum (Private). During the year in all 67 visits were
made by me in connection with the Private Petroleum Stores and
Traders' Stores.
Carbide of Calcium. Four persons were licensed during the
year for the storage of Carbide of Calcium in respect of amounts
varying from 114 to 224 lbs.
Distribution of Leaflets. In the year 1909 the Council decided
that there should be an annual distribution of leaflets containing
information with regard to the notification, causes, symptoms,
treatment, &c., of Scarlet Fever and other Infectious Diseases,
including Phthisis.
During the month of September last cards relating to Scarlet
Fever and during the month of October last cards relating to
Infantile Diarrhoea were left at each of the small houses, and cards
and posters relating to Phthisis were left at the Elementary Schools,
Barbers' Shops, &c., throughout the District.
Extermination of Rats. During the year rats have been
destroyed on the various dust shoots, allotments, &c., in the
District.
