VACCINATION.
Of the 387 births notified to the Vaccination Officers during 1923, 102 had been
successfully vaccinated by the end of the year, 17 had died before the age for
vaccination, and in no case was a child reported as insusceptible. Vaccination was
postponed by medical certificate in 4 cases, 215 had removed into other districts,
or the vaccinations were pending at the end of the year. There were 49 instances
of conscientious objection. The Public Vaccinators performed 349 re-vaccinations
during the year, and in addition to the 102 successful vaccinations referred to
above, 54 persons were vaccinated for the first time.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Few comments are necessary with reference, to the incidence of infectious
disease during the year 1923.
Diphtheria was prevalent to the extent of 17 cases as compared with 40 in 1922.
The number of Scarlet Fever cases was 39 compared with 32 in 1922. Erysipelas
showed an increase from four to five. Measles and Rubella are not notifiable
diseases and only a few cases of illness of this type were brought to my notice
through the medium of the school medical service. Five cases only of Chicken-pox
were notified and one of Ophthalmia Neonatorum. The percentage of cases removed
to hospital for treatment continues satisfactory, viz. : 95.3.
In each instance of notified disease a detailed examination is made of the
sanitary condition of the premises. Where the case occurred and a summary of

NOTIFICATION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES.—In the following tables
will be found particulars of certificates relating to cases of infectious disease,
and information as to the removal of patients to hospitals, infirmaries, &c.
