It will be seen from this table that during the year 1908, compared with the decennium
1891-1900, there has been a saving of 26,205 lives, representing a gain to the community of
1,066,770 years of " life-capital."

The following table from the Annual Summary of the Registrar-General shows the diminution
or excess in the year 1908 under certain of the more important headings in the list of causes of death,
when compared with the annual average deaths of the preceding 10 years, corrected for increase of
population.
