Metropolitan Borough of Saint Pancras.
REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
For the Year 1926.
For the purpose of this Report, the year consists of the 52 weeks ended 1 st January, 1927.
Section 1.-STATISTICS AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE AREA.
POPULATION AND GENERAL STATISTICS.
The population of the Borough at the Census of 1921 was 211,366. The total
population of St. Pancras for the year 1926, as estimated by the Registrar-General, was
216,800, the civilian population being estimated at 216,400. The latter estimate (civilian
population) has been used in calculating the death-rates in this report, and the former (total
population) in calculating the marriage and birth-rates.
I am of opinion that the Registrar-General has somewhat under-estimated the population
of the Borough, thus causing the various rates which are based on this estimate to appear
unduly high.
PRINCIPAL OCCUPATIONS OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE BOROUGH.
There are no particular industries carried on in the Borough which to any extent affect
the public health prejudicially.
The following table gives for each sex the principal occupations as ascertained at the
last Census.
The number and percentage engaged in the various occupations mentioned are also
given: —
