The following are the results of inquiries into possible sources of infection
in the 16 civil cases:—
Arrived in St. Pancras already ill 2
History of having eaten shell-fish a few days before the
onset of illness (oysters, 2; periwinkles, 1: cockles,
1; crab and lobster, 1) 5
No source traced 1
In no instance was there more than one case in a house, and no evidence was
found of the spread of the disease by means of "carriers," or through the
agency of milk.
Bacteriological Examinations.—20 specimens of blood of St. Pancras patients
were examined by the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine for the Widal
reaction of typhoid fever at the expense of the Borough. Of these 7 gave
positive results, and 13 negative results.
ANTERIOR POLIO-MYELITIS.
• 8 cases of Anterior Polio-Myelitis were notified during 1915.
