Smoke-Prevention.
A register of smoke shafts is kept in the department. At the end of 1913
there were 343 shafts on the register.
During the year 550 observations were made and 66 re-inspections after the
service of notices. There were no prosecutions.
Regulated Trades.
Offensive Trades.—There are two licensed premises for such trades in St.
Pancras, viz., a tripe-dresser's in Kentish Town Road, and a tallow-melter's
in Tudor Place. These have been kept under special observation during the
year in consequence of complaints.
During October night observations were made in the neighbourhood of the
tallow works, and the attention of the owners drawn to the smell arising.
Since then there have been no complaints of smells. At the tripe-dresser's
certain repairs and improvements were made during the year.
